When we started Spectruss right here in Chattanooga, we had a simple idea: help good businesses grow. We learned a lot during the last 14 years, but one lesson stands above the rest, especially for local businesses: you can’t just rely on your work, you have to be found.
It’s not about being fancy or corporate, but about ensuring the people who need you, your product or service can find you in just one click.
Here is a simple, real-world framework we built to help our friends and partners start owning the local search results.
1. Your Google Business Profile
Think of your Google Business Profile as the digital handshake you give a potential client (or something corny like that. Anyways, it’s your first connection).
If you were meeting a client, you’d tell them exactly what you do, how you do it, and your contact information. Do the same online. Fill out every single field. Photos of your real team, your correct address, specific service areas, it all signals to Google that you are a legitimate, active local partner.
It might sound picky, but trust us, if you list your address as “Main St.” on your website and “Main Street” on Google, the system sees two different businesses. We call it NAP Consistency (Name, Address, Phone). Get it identical everywhere. It’s like ensuring your business card always matches your storefront sign.
Reviews are also a big part of your digital presence, but don’t just collect reviews, talk to the people leaving them. Leave genuine response to a good review to create connection, even send a response to the bad ones, it might show you’re human and you care or it can piss off your client but still: there is not such a thing as bad advertising.
2. Your Website
We love great abstract design and we also like when there are no room for questions cause everything is explained in different pages, however, design is decoration, information can be too much and that can be translatd as: no clients at all.
See your website as a valuable hard employee, it has to represent fully your business, know everything about what you do and who you serve, it has to be your main point of contact, your presentation card, a piece of you as a business owner.
If your customers live in Chattanooga, Ooltewah, and Signal Mountain. Your website needs to use those words. Don’t just build a page called “Contact Us.” Build a page called “HVAC Repair Services in Ooltewah” or “Gym Memberships in North Shore, Chattanooga.” This helps Google match you directly to the people searching nearby.
You gotta show all this and you gotta make it quick. If someone is searching for an emergency roofer after a storm, clicks on your site, but it takes more than 5 seconds to load on their phone, be sure they’ve already moved on and are looking at your competition.
You Might Need a Marketing Agency
There is no magic trick to marketing and whoever tries to convince you otherwise is a full-time scammer. Marketing is about creativity with purpose backed by data causing a long-term impact while satisfying the needs of your potential customers.
We know choosing a marketing partner is a huge decision. It’s trusting someone with your livelihood. Here at Spectruss, we don’t take that lightly, we are partners, not vendors.
Check some of the partners we’ve worked with for the last decade, you might recognize some. Case studies here.
